Mbaba Mwana Waresa
October 7th, 2007 by sabrina
Just a short one today, but a nice story for a change.

Mbaba Mwana Waresa is the Zulu Goddess of rain, agriculture, and the harvest. She is one of the most beloved Goddesses of Southern Africa, largely because she is credited with the invention of beer. Mbaba Mwana Waresa is also the Goddess of rainbows, a symbol of the link between heaven and earth, the Gods and man. Mythology says that she could not find a suitable husband in heaven, so she came to look on earth. She came across a herdsman named Thandiwe, whose song moved her so much that she chose him to be her companion. Being mortal, he had to face many tests to prove himself, but he was at last accepted by Mbaba Mwana Waresa as her husband.

I’m glad someone else finds them as interesting as I do! And I take requests, so fire away.

Out of all the gods and godesses in this world, you choose an african god who virtually NO ONE has ever heard of. Seriously. That’s just like seriously lame.

Lame? I think it’s informative. I try to shine my light in the corners, not the centre of the room.

That’s GODDESS. I know it might be difficult for one to understand, but Greco-Roman and European pagan cultures were actually preceded by Semite, Hammidic, Babylonian, Persian and yes, AFRICAN Gods & Goddesses long before the introduction of Abraham and patriarchy. In the western hemisphere, the native peoples of central & south “America”, the Carib and African slaves ALL worshiped a wide variety of spirit/god & goddess entities long before the European nightmare visited these shores and will continue, long after it is over. Do you really think that Haiti and Brazil are Catholic countries? The whole natural world was and is dominated by Gods, Goddesses and Spirit entities worshiped and called upon by people of color. Do you have any idea how many people that is on this planet? Do you have any idea what has been called for 2012 and by whom?
